Who Are We?
Jobs for Mississippi Graduates, Inc. (JMG), is an affiliate of the Jobs for America’s Graduates’ (JAG) Program. JAG is the nation’s largest, most consistently applied model of drop-out prevention services and school-to-work transition for at-risk and disadvantaged youth.
JMG has been an affiliate of JAG since 1991 and is currently offering a comprehensive set of services in 49 high schools and 4 middle schools across the State of Mississippi. Thirty-five to forty-five students are recruited to participate at each site. The JMG drop-out prevention program is sanctioned by the Mississippi Department of Education (MDE). Each student enrolled in the class that successfully meet all requirements, receive 1 Carnegie unit per the MDE course guide.
JMG is the only agency that currently runs statewide dropout prevention and employability skills classes, with a curriculum that can be expanded to include 9-12, and may be replicated successfully. The program is designed to work with students with barriers to success using the National JAG Model that has a research-based curriculum with reading and math built into each module. Youth receive employability skills training in up to eighty-one competency areas. These competencies include: Career development skills, Job attainment skills, job survival skills, basic skills, leadership & self-development skills, personal skills, life survival skills and work place skills.
In addition, the JMG services includes twelve months of follow-up after the youth leaves high school to ensure his or her successful transition into postsecondary education, the work place, military or an apprenticeship program.
The JMG program is designed to work directly with the schools and therefore enhance the school services without duplication of programs. It is one of the most cost-effective programs in the state with an average cost of $1,200 - $1,500 per student.
